The Icelandic Sheepdog, Iceland’s only native dog, was brought to Iceland with the first Viking settlers. They are slightly under medium sized with prick ears and a curled tail. They have gentle, intelligent, happy expression. They have two different types of coats: long and short, and both are extremely weatherproof.

The Icelandic Sheepdog is a hardy, agile herding animal. They are very alert and always give visitors an enthusiastic welcome without being aggressive. Icelandic Sheepdogs are cheerful, friendly, inquisitive, playful and unafraid.

Icelandic Sheepdogs make wonderful family pets and do great with children.

This breed does fine with other pets if properly socialized.
