The Hovawart is calm at home, but energetic outdoors. They are determined, obedient, and affectionate animals who are loyal to their family members. Hovawarts are intelligent, highly trainable, and they learn what you expect from it quickly. The best results are achieved with extremely consistent, loving, and well balanced training.

Hovawarts are excellent with children if they are properly socialized.
- Other Pets:
This breed may be aggressive with same sex dogs, but they do well with non-canine pets in the household if they are socialized with them from puppyhood.

Hovawarts prefer cool climates and can sleep outdoors.

Hovawarts are not recommended for apartment life. They are moderately active indoors and will do best with at least an average sized yard.

This breed adapts itself to the circumstances. They enjoy regular long walks and chances to run and play off lead. They like to hike and go backpacking.

Required:
The Hovawart’s coat is easy to groom. An occasional brushing and combing, taking extra care in the places where tangles might form, is all this breed needs. It is an average shedder.
