The English Toy Spaniel is a small, sturdy, square spaniel with a deep, pug nose that is black with very wide nostrils. The round eyes are large, and dark with a very sweet expression. The tail is customarily docked.

Trainability: The English Toy Spaniel is gentle, happy, playful, loving and sweet but it is sometimes timid. This breed is naturally well-behaved and intelligent, but it is bit willful. It is quiet, non-demanding, but needs to be treated gently.
With Children: The English Toy Spaniel is good with children, but they do best with an older child.
Other Pets: This breed is very friendly towards other dogs.
Climate: English Toy Spaniels should be protected from extreme temperatures.
Indoor / Outdoor: It is good for apartment life, relatively inactive indoors, and will do okay without a yard.
Exercise Required: Needs very little, and is relatively inactive indoors.
Grooming Required: They are average shedders. No trimming or stripping is needed. Regular brushing will do.
