Cocker Spaniels are beautiful dogs with long hanging ears, a rounded head, and a profuse, feathered coat. They have wide, deep muzzles and a square jaw. Cockers have round eyes, that look straightforward. Their compact bodies have very short backs and their front legs are straight. Cocker’s tails must be docked to 2/5 of the original length and carried on the line with its back.

Colors:   Buff, black, and other solid colors; black-and-tan, and parti-color.

Trainability:   Cocker Spaniels are bold dogs who love to work and are as suited to life as a gundog and as a household pet. They respect their owner’s authority without much challenge. Cockers are lively, playful and devoted, but should be well socialized when they are young to avoid a tendency for shyness. 

With Children:   Cockers are usually good with children.

Other Pets:   This breed gets along great with other pets.

Climate:  Cockers adapt well to all climates.

Indoor / Outdoor:   Cocker Spaniel can do okay in an apartment as long as they adequately exercised. They are fairly active indoors.

Exercise Required:   Cockers need regular exercise and have great stamina.

Grooming Required:   This breed’s eyes need regular cleanings. Some owners prefer to leave the coat long, which requires regular brushing and shampooing, while other prefer the cut the coat to medium length in order to be functional. Either way, this breed requires frequent grooming and is an average shedder.
