The Clumber Spaniel, a massive dog, has a broad, deep chest. They have a broad, square head and a deep stop and well developed lips. The wide muzzle is great for retrieving. Their dark amber eyes are slightly deep set and they have large ears. Their robust, muscular shoulders are carried level with the back. This breed has very thick, straight and silky hair.

Trainability: Clumber Spaniels are gently, sweet, intelligent dogs. They are very well-behaved and not very active when they mature. This breed is a gentle person’s dog and they do not take very well to heavy-handed discipline. They have a very good memory and a wiliness to please that makes them easy to train.
With Children: This breed is usually very trustworthy with children of the family.
Other Pets: Clumbers will get along with other dogs and cats as well as other household animals if they are raised with them.
Climate: Clumbers are most comfortable in cool weather due to their dense coats.
Indoor / Outdoor: This breed will do okay in an apartment if sufficiently exercised. They are very inactive indoors.
Exercise Required: Young Clumbers are extremely active, but, as they age, they slow down considerably. Playing fetch for a few minutes a day will usually satisfy their exercise requirements.
Grooming Required: The coat must be groomed regularly with a brush and a comb. Some skilled trimming of the coat required, and the ears and they eyes need to be cleaned regularly. Clumbers are heavy shedders.
