Appearance

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a long, low dog with very, large erect ears, a broad flat skull, and a long, low-set tail. The Cardigan tends to be a bit heavier than the Pembroke. The Cardigan has a straight topline and a deep chest with a prominent breastbone. Their front feet turn slightly outwards. The front assembly should be relatively heavy-boned, but not coarse. The head is broad between the ears and tapers to the eyes.

Life Range:   12 to 15 years

Height Range:   10” to 13”

Weight Range:   25 to 30 lbs.

Colors:   Brindle, blue merle, black, black & tan, black & brindle, sable, and red- often with white markings.

Trainability:   The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is highly intelligent, obedient, protective and robust. This dog is very willing to please.

With Children:   Corgi’s are usually good with considerate children.

Other Pets:   These dogs are good with other non-canine animals and with other Corgis, but can be combative with other dogs. Males can be aggressive with other male dogs.

Climate:  This breed adapts well to all climates.

Indoor / Outdoor:   Good for apartment life. They are very active indoors, and will do okay without a yard.

Exercise Required:   Cardigans must have regular exercise.

Grooming Required:   The wiry, medium-length water resistant coat is easy to groom. Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush, and bathe only when necessary. This breed sheds two times a year.
