Appearance

The Canadian Eskimo Dog’s long outer coat, curved tail, and dense undercoat allow it to work in the world’s harshest and coldest environments. There eyes can be any color except blue and are usually dark brown, black, and yellow. The Eskimos Dog’s head should be broad and wedged shaped. The muzzle is tapered and of medium length. The ears are short, thick, and have a slightly rounded end. They are carried erect, turned forward, and covered with dense short hair.

Country of Origin:   Canada

Life Range:   12 to 15 years

Height Range:   23” to 28”

Weight Range:   60 to 105 lbs.

Colors:   Any color or combination of colors are permitted. The most common include: black, white, red, grey, silver, and cinnamon.

Trainability:   The Canadian Eskimo Dog requires firm training, and it is essential for this breed as they are very determined. They have a hard-earned instinct for survival.

With Children:   These dogs can do well with children if properly socialized.

Other Pets:  The Canadian Eskimo Dog does well with out dogs if properly socialized.

Climate:  These dogs can be sensitive to the heat.

Indoor / Outdoor:   These dogs need a large amount of space to run and exercise. They are not recommended for apartment life. 

Exercise Required:   These dogs have an enormous amount of energy, and their exercise requirements reflect this. Without exercise and stimulation, boredom will set in and could lead to destructiveness.

Grooming Required:   Brushing should be done once a week to help stimulate new hair growth, and once a day when the breed is shedding.
