The Black Mouth Cur is an unquestionably muscular, sturdy, rugged Southern dog. Some Black Mouth Curs are born with heavier coats and some are born with lighter coates; these two different coat types can appear in the same litter. The ears are medium-sized and hanging. The chest is deep and solid.

Trainability: This breed is avoid hunters, yet they can also work cattle. Breeders say a pup will train himself treeing, protecting and bunching and penning cattle by six months of age. The Black Mouth Cur have a burning desire to please their master. Do not spank this dog when training, instead use a stern voice.
With Children: This breed is notably protective of children.
Other Pets: Good with other dogs, but this breed should never be trusted with non-canine pets.
