The Pointer is bred primarily for sport and is a true wide-range hunter. He gives the impression of compact power and agile grace. His movement should show him to be a wide-awake, hard-driving hunting dog possessing stamina, courage and the desire to go. His energy and devotion makes him a superior gundog.

Trainability: Friendly and energetic, this breed can also become very timid if not properly socialized at a young age. The Pointer can also prove difficult to train. The Pointer has a short attention span and should always have variety.
With Children: Happy, social Pointers enjoy playing, especially with older children.
Other Pets: As this breed has hunting instincts, it is not recommended for homes with small and passive animals.
Climate: Pointers do well in all climates.
Indoor / Outdoor: Pointers enjoy the outdoors and would not make good apartment dogs.
Exercise Required: The Pointer does best in a field environment and loves the outdoors. A very tireless breed, this dog requires extensive exercise or he can become very destructive.
Grooming Required: The Pointer has a very short coat, which makes grooming a breeze. The coat should remain short, dense and smooth. The coat should also have a shiny appearance.
