Appearance

The American Staffordshire is a very muscular, stocky, yet agile dog who is extremely strong for his size. He has a broad, powerful head, short muzzle, and very strong jaws. Its coat is made up of thick, short, shiny hair.  This dog is classified by the AKC as the American Staffordshire Terrier and by the UKC as the American Pit Bull Terrier.

Country of Origin:   United States

Life Range:   9 to 15 years

Height Range:   16” to 19”

Weight Range:   57 to 67 lbs.

Colors:   All colors are admissible, but dogs must not be more than 80% white.

Trainability:   Almost always obedient, this dog wants nothing more than to please his master. It is an extremely loyal and affectionate family pet that is very courageous and intelligent.

With Children:   This dog is wonderful with children.

Other Pets:   Some un-socialized Staffs may be dog aggressive. Socialize very thoroughly when young to curve any dog aggressive tendencies.

Climate:  This breed prefers warm climates.

Indoor / Outdoor:   Staffordshire Terriers will do okay in an apartment if they receive sufficient exercise. It is very active indoors and will do alright without a yard.

Exercise Required:   American Staffordshire Terriers must have plenty of exercise.

Grooming Required:   The smooth, short-haired coat of this dog is very easy to groom. Brush on a regular basis with a firm bristle brush and bathe or dry shampoo when necessary.
